EUROPOL’s ‘Terrorism Situation and Trend Report 2021’ is out!
EUROPOL just published its ‘Terrorism Situation and Trend Report 2021’!
Published each year, the report details the terrorism situation across the European Union, including figures on the number and type of attacks and arrests, the trends for the major terrorist groups/organisations. This year, EUROPOL also provides an analysis of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on terrorist attacks and of the nexus between terrorism and crime and the terrorist propaganda among others.
The report covers jihadist terrorism, right-wing terrorism and left-wing and anarchist terrorism.
Some key findings and findings for 2020 are the following:
– There was a total of 57 completed, failed and foiled attacks in 6 Member States (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Italy and Spain)(compared to 55 in 2019)
– 21 persons died and 54 persons were injured as the result of a terrorist attack in the EU
– 3 EU Member States experienced 4 right-wing terrorist incidents (Belgium, France, Germany)
– The quantity and quality of IS’ propaganda decreased considerably in 2020.
