Crime can have long-term and detrimental consequences for victims and their families, not only for their physical, financial and emotional wellbeing but also for their attitudes towards society as a whole.

When considering victims’ needs, it is important to acknowledge that there are needs common to all victims (e.g. recognition), there are needs of victims of specific groups (e.g. older/younger people, people with disabilities), and there are individual needs of each victim (e.g. personal situation).
